Dirt biking tips and tricks
Dirt biking alone is fun but dangerous too, especially if you go trail riding alone. It’s not always easy to find a dirt bike riding buddy who is free at the same time as you, but if you ride alone there are safety risks as you may have an off-road accident with no one to help if you have a crash.
Yes you can clean a dirt bike air filter with dish soap or washing up liquid so long as it’s a foam or cotton air filter. However, for best results to maintain a properly cleaned air filter you should use air filter cleaner first to help remove the dirt and then rinse it in soapy water afterwards.
How to set dirt bike sag by yourself to your weight can be done using the Motool Slacker V3 digital suspension tuner. Firstly, you need to measure your bike’s free sag, static sag and then rider sag (race sag). What if your weight is heavier than average? You will probably need to shorten sag (i.e. tighten the shock lock nut and turn it clockwise). But what if your weight is less than average? You’ll probably need to lengthen sag (i.e. loosen the shock lock nut and turn it anticlockwise)
Free sag on a dirt bike is the suspension measurement with the wheel of your dirt bike off the ground. This means the suspension has no weight on it whatsoever. When we talk about sag, we are talking about how much your dirt bike “sags”. Or put this another way, and in particular with reference to “free sag” it’s how much your shock absorber drops when there’s no weight pushing through the suspension from the wheel.

Rider sag on a dirt bike is the measurement of how much the forks and shocks compress. In this case it’s the measurement when you get on your dirt bike. This is also known as “total sag”. When we talk about sag, we are talking about how much your dirt bike “sags”. Or put this another way, and in particular with reference to “rider sag” it’s how much your shock absorber compresses when you are sat on the bike.
